GEW 2nd Task Force Meet in Penang ; Fri 19 Sept 2008

Friends,

Pardon the short silence yesterday - came back from Penang late on Friday and Saturday flew by so fast - with many family and social functions to attend.

Nas Sobri - if I didn't know him, i would be tempted to suspect that the name is actually a pseudonym for a committee of 5 to 6 people !

Single handedly he has managed to get a whole group of people on board the Global Entrepreneurship Week bus in Penang.

The 2nd GEW Taskforce meeting was held at the Eureka building@USM. Meeting was from 3pm to 5pm.

The meeting went well, attended by an interested group of people.

Most of you are in this photo. For more photos, visit Nas' Facebook.

John Goh from MIRC was also there but he had to leave a little earlier, so he is not in this photo.

Summary of the meeting:

1. Nas gave a brief overview of GEW and briefly introduced me and invited me to present GEW;

2. I introduced GEW, WG and the role of Partners and that of the Host;

Actually I changed the presentation a little - to include the sentence "a new Renaissance, long overdue".

This term was used in a mail sent earlier by another young and dynamic entrepreneur - Daniel Cerventus. The term immediately became a source of my inspiration. Thank you Daniel.

Together with Nas we urged everyone to use "the Week" as a platform to connect with new people and become visible in their respective businesses;

3. Nas then took over the floor to go through the event template and to actually get everyone's commitment- to get them to actually think about and put down in writing what they plan to do during "the week".

At the end of the day, only this type of commitment yields results - to actually get people to commit. Many people attend meetings, give a few feedback and then go back to their own routine. Nothing much gets done. The same people end up doing the work.

In a campaign like the GEW, it is our opportunity to change this habit - to get people to come and commit to do something entrepreneurial in their respective communities. This - getting people to commit and persuading them to act, people like Nas, are doing very well.

After the meeting, Nas persuaded Vivian, my colleague and I to stay back for Buka Puasa. I could not refuse him - although i knew i had to be on the road very late. Fortunately I had Naidu, my occasional driver to take Vivian and i back safely.

I am really glad I stayed back. The Buka Puasa was held at the rustic Restoran Veranda at the USM Guesthouse - set amidst lush greenary in the beautiful campus.

We met more interesting people, enjoyed the company of Nas and left Penang at about 8.30pm and got into KL by mid-night.

It was a satisfying day - to traverse the country promoting Entrepreneurship and seeking people to make new connections. The Groundswell as to begin now.

Cheers.

Ur being very nice Dash with regards to that day's recollection!

Thanks a lot for this log/diary record - after all, I'm only a single person, not that 5-6 committee board, and I just didn't get to write about the meeting as fast as you ;) {besides uploading the pictures - like they said though, pictures are worth a thousand words... - my usual excuse for not writing long!}

Thank you for two of you inspirational individuals who obviously worked beyond normal working hours and people like you, Vivian, Emily and the rest of your team there who inspire others, and and I'm sure many others more soon, to join in for the noble cause - this campaign!
