My purpose was to go to Semporna.
For the benefit of my non-Malaysian readers please visit www.sabahtourism.com to see where these lovely places are.
In fact Semporna is the gateway to many lovely islands - diving destinations - in the East Coast of Sabah.
An event was happening in Semporna - our Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage, Datuk Shafie Apdal was opening their new library.
But I was there for another reason - my company conceptualized the Folk Tale competition - a way to preserve the rich heritage in this country. The competition is about the community telling their folk tales to a group that digitizes them and then sending in their entries to the state libraries. This brings the young, the old and the community library into focus and helps create a knowledge society in a non intimidating way.
We had great success in Sarawak last year and this year, Sabah state library too have given their support.
So, I was there at the same event where the Minister of Human Resource Development, Dato' Hajah Azizah (picture) thanked Warisan Global for the idea and our contribution to support the folktale competition AND to announce that the competion will be launched during the Global Entrepreneurship Week !
I am here also with Joanna Kitingan, President of the Sabah Homestay Association and Esther Vincent Mobilik, Head of Reader Services division.
Thank you to the Minister and the Sabah State Library Executive Director, Mr Wong for supporting the competition and the "the Week" .
